Granulated Eyelids

Definition: Granulated eyelids is a common condition that affects the eyelids. Often referred to as blepharitis, granulated eyelids is a common problem in both children and adults. The condition produces flaky debris and particles at the base of the eyelashes.

Most cases of granulated eyelids are caused by poor eyelid hygiene. Other causes include oily eyelid glands, allergic reactions, bacterial infections, or lice on the eyelashes. Granulated eyelids are usually treated by regularly cleaning the lids and lashes. In addition to hygiene, some doctors may prescribe topical or systemic antibiotics or other medications to help control the condition.
