Eye bulging

Definition: A bulging of the eye or eyes out of the orbit. Exophthalmos can occur in both eyes (bilateral, as is often seen in Graves Disease) or one eye (unilateral.)

An eye doctor measures the degree of exophthalmos using a special ruler called an exophthalmometer. If needed, treatment includes medication or sometimes surgery.
