Is it safe to wear makeup with contact lenses? The American Optometric Association (AOA) says "yes," as long as the contact lenses go on before the makeup. The AOA offers more guidance on choosing and applying makeup for contact lens wearers.

My wife was told not to wear eye makeup when wearing her lenses. The doctor had indicated that this could lead to anything from a minor “irritation” to something as severe as an infection.
