Is Monovision Right for You?

Friday January 25, 2008
With each passing birthday, our ability to focus and to switch focus decreases. By the time people reach their forties, they usually need an aid, such as reading glasses or bifocals, to focus on objects close up. We call this condidtion presbyopia.

A corrective technique, called monovision, may give presbyopes the best chance of eliminating corrective eyewear entirely. With monovision, one contact lens is worn to correct distance vision and another contact lens is worn to correct near vision.

Most people have great results with monovision, usually becoming accustomed to it within a few weeks. How about you? Have you tried monovision?

I have been using monovision for three years and have had great success. It initially took a bit of tweaking to get it right. So it takes a bit of patience and a good OD. I have had problems with dry eye and find with silicone hydrogel lenses, that contacts give me better vision with monovision, then get with glasses. Also, monovision is more convenient than glasses.
