Dr. Ernie Bowling, an optometrist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Optometry, says that when people stare at the computer screen, they tend to blink less, which means they're producing no tears. "It's especially a problem for people older than 50, since tear production slows with age anyway,' he says. Dr. Bowling advises his patients to try omega 3 nutritional supplements, to help stimulate tear duct production. He also suggests using artificial tears and applying hot compresses to the eyes.
